Selflessness and selfishness are equally destructive. They both give too much importance to self and create separation. It doesn’t matter if you are only acting for yourself without thinking about others or if you are only acting for others without thinking about you, it is still exclusion. In my healing practice and in my life in general, I have yet to come across anyone who has never been deeply hurt by someone. Apart from the deep traumas we have received there are also the negative comments, judgments and opinions of people that we face in our day to day lives.

These small hurts, if not snubbed in the root, sometimes accumulate over time and become huge resentments further leading to painful conscious or sub-conscious beliefs such as, the world is a hostile place, everybody is out to get me, people are mean, nobody loves me or in extreme cases life is not worth living and so on.
